What to Expect

Parishioner Planning for our Outdoor Services We have missed meeting together and seeing each other face to face.  Paul tells the Hebrews to not neglect meeting together so that we can encourage each other (Hebrews 10:25).  We have developed two options for worship that will meet your comfort level for meeting face to face.   We will have two worship services on the 5th. The early service is best suited for those who need stricter adherence to mask wearing and social distancing. The second service will offer a more relaxed setting that permits......

Outdoor Service, July 5th

Light of Christ is pleased to announce two outdoor services for July 5, 2020, to be held at the Olsen home in Kenosha. Since best practices continue to evolve and we have people at higher and lower risk within our congregation, we are providing 2 services: one for those at higher risk wishing or who wish to take more precautions and one for those at lower risk with less precautions. If you are at high risk or uncertain about attending either service, our 10:30 service will be available via Zoom. 9:00 AM service......

May 2020

May 16, 2020 Brothers and sisters, With the overturning of the Governor’s stay at home order, many are asking if we plan to meet soon? We had just begun our scenario planning for reopening, in light of the Federal Guidelines, gating criteria and phasing, when the WI Supreme Court passed down its ruling. There are two reasons why the ruling is unlikely to change our planning or accelerate our return to Simmons: First, we have been informed by the County that it will observe the original order’s guidelines for reopening as “best......

How to Prepare for Worship

Back when “preparing for worship” meant “herding the family out the door by 9:45” it was tricky to get ready to worship. Now that we are isolated from one another and in our homes, it can be even more difficult! Here are a few tips from Fr. Eirik, Karen Cassiday and John Traylor on setting aside time and space on Sunday morning–so church doesn’t just feel like another installment of your favorite Netflix series. Fr. Eirik Olsen 9:00 am – Prepare your space for worship. Watch on the largest screen you have......

Good Friday Gift 2020

Our Good Friday Gift recipient is an evangelist and priest with the Diocese of Jos in Nigeria. He started a community school that currently serves more than 250 children, as well as housing a training program for local women. Daily lessons are carried out in only six roofed classrooms. The school has great need of a well, additional classrooms, a chapel, and an assembly hall to serve their growing population of students. With his ministry team, he also planted a church in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Jos. This area......

With our distribution of the reserve sacrament on Palm Sunday, we want to minimize any possibility of coronavirus transmission in the process. A recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that coronavirus can remain viable for up to 72 hours on hard services such as plastics. Our plan for Sunday is based on those findings, as we have intentionally built in additional time between handling these items. What we’re doing By the end of day Wednesday, we’ll put together packets of wafers for each family and deliver them......

Accept the Bishop’s challenge and reach out to your neighbors during this challenging time. Here’s a sample note you can leave at your neighbor’s home: Hi Neighbor! We want to respect your privacy during this time, but want to let you know that we are here if there is ever anything we can do for you! We have a good stock of food and cleaning supplies, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything! Our church is committing to praying Psalm 46 for 46 days. We are praying for......

Mar 2020

Brothers and sisters, As of March 16, we have decided to suspend both our Sunday worship services and house group meetings for the remainder of the month. We are not doing this out of fear, but out of love. Loving our neighbor means sacrificing our own comfort and desires in order to give life to others. In this case, we’re protecting the most vulnerable in our congregation by eliminating a possible source of exposure to this dangerous virus. You are no doubt experiencing a range of emotions as we face this challenging......

Let not your hearts be troubled We want to express our love for one another by not putting others at risk. Please follow the CDC & Kenosha county guidelines. For our service we are taking the following precautions: Nursery is cancelled. We will pass the Peace verbally only. The offering will be taken in a “touchless”: fashion. We will provide communion in one kind only; that is, just the bread. As a member of our community Decide carefully whether you should attend: If you or a member of your family is ill,......
