God's Greatest Gift - Christmas Eve Giving

In late 2015, Racine Vocational Ministry and a group of Kenosha citizens, under the leadership of District Attorney Michael Graveley and the Kenosha County Health Department, met to address the issues of gun violence and public health. After a year of discussion and planning, the challenges of people returning from prison emerged as a priority to lowering violence and strengthening families. In March of 2016, gifts from Kenosha churches St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church and St. Mary’s Lutheran Church, and a Kenosha board member gave RVM the opportunity to begin offering services in......

Friends, We have a had a great month of Bible Club on Fridays! Our last day is this Friday, August 25. For those of you who have been helping lead, Julie will send out the lesson plan in the next couple of days, but we wanted to go ahead and give you an important update on the block party and other upcoming plans. The Light of Christ Vestry is pleased to welcome David Seidl as its newest member. The vestry voted in March to increase its size by one person, bringing the total number of seats on the vestry to seven, plus a clerk. This move ensures we will continue to have a quorum even when some members are travelling. Dave was nominated to serve at that same meeting and has already attended our April and May Vestry meetings. Dave will be considered a member of the 2016 Vestry class and will serve a 3......

A Prayer for Holy Week’s Transformational Power My prayer, as we go into Holy Week, is that we will hear Jesus’s story. Hear it so deeply, with all its jarring realities and winning joys, that it captures our hearts and makes us new people. This can happen because Holy Week not only “reviews” the story that most powerfully shows God’s love, it invites us to participate in it; it gives us many dramatic and tangible ways to transform our own stories with Christ’s good and glorious one. Holy Week Challenges Our Comfortable Ideas About......

My father heart cried when I saw the picture of little Aylan Kurdi washed up on the shores of Turkey. I wondered why it was that his and his father’s cry for a better life was not heard when he was still alive? Why is it the case that an innocent’s death is the eloquence we need, in order for our own hearts finally to respond with care? Why did we not realize before it was too late? What else are we not realizing about the direness of our human condition? As......

This morning I was reading the end of Mark 6, the story of when Jesus walks on the water.  He’s on land by himself, praying.  He sees the disciples struggling in the wind and waves.  He steps out on the water, fully intending to walk right by them.  Yet when they cried out in fear, He comes to their boat to comfort them.  “Take heart; it is I.  Do not be afraid.”  He gets in the boat, and the wind ceases.  He accompanies them the rest of the way to shore. I......
