The Light of Christ Vestry is pleased to welcome David Seidl as its newest member. The vestry voted in March to increase its size by one person, bringing the total number of seats on the vestry to seven, plus a clerk. This move ensures we will continue to have a quorum even when some members are travelling. Dave was nominated to serve at that same meeting and has already attended our April and May Vestry meetings. Dave will be considered a member of the 2016 Vestry class and will serve a 3......

“Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” James 4:8 “Draw near” is an invitation God extends to everyone, not just Christians. The reward for drawing near is nothing less than God’s presence–he draws near to us in turn! This promise is one we can easily make to our family and friends. God is not magic, nor is he a divine vending machine (prayer goes in, answer comes out), but he does promise to get closer to us when we get closer to him, and that’s where amazing, miraculous things......

Draw Near to God

Draw Near to God and He Will Draw Near to You Where did our Lenten and Holy Week theme come from? Jeanne Olsen fills us in. It was just after Holy Week last year. I had been praying for folks I had hoped would come to our Holy Week services. Some of them did, some of them didn’t. But our services had been so good! I hoped that somehow, more people would attend next year. Then I had a dream. First I saw the words “Draw near to God, and He will......

A Window into God's World

My father heart cried when I saw the picture of little Aylan Kurdi washed up on the shores of Turkey. I wondered why it was that his and his father’s cry for a better life was not heard when he was still alive? Why is it the case that an innocent’s death is the eloquence we need, in order for our own hearts finally to respond with care? Why did we not realize before it was too late? What else are we not realizing about the direness of our human condition? As......

…But Not Our Vision Sunday, September 13 marks a momentous day in Wisconsin.  Sure it’s NFL’s opening Sunday and the Packers just happen to be playing the Bears.  Admittedly, that alone is enough to make any Wisconsinite get the cheese out.  But tucked away in a 3-car garage just off Park Avenue in Racine WI will be the first worship service of Parish House Anglican.  As the priest of this newly minted congregation I’m excited and confused all at the same time.  Julie and I moved to our current home 3 1/2......

Take Heart

This morning I was reading the end of Mark 6, the story of when Jesus walks on the water.  He’s on land by himself, praying.  He sees the disciples struggling in the wind and waves.  He steps out on the water, fully intending to walk right by them.  Yet when they cried out in fear, He comes to their boat to comfort them.  “Take heart; it is I.  Do not be afraid.”  He gets in the boat, and the wind ceases.  He accompanies them the rest of the way to shore. I......

Light of Christ Ministry Lab

Wednesdays, Olsen Home This summer we’ll focus on equipping our members to be on mission in Kenosha, Southeastern Wisconsin or where ever you live and work. The Light of Christ Ministry Lab is a regular time of teaching, prayer or discussion on ministry and mission. The second is to frame our entire lives as mission. The ministry lab will meet every other Wednesday from......
