Volunteers Needed for Block Party!

Backyard Bible School is happening this week!  Thank you for the generosity of all of you who have donated supplies, money, and time.  One of the most anticipated events of the week is our block party, which will be taking place on Friday, August 7, from 5-8pm.  We are expecting that this will provide a significant opportunity to begin to bring the community together for the sake of the Kingdom.  If you’re available and willing to help, we can use as many hands as possible to pull this off.  You might be asked to manage a carnival game, paint faces, monitor the bounce house, keep an eye on the food table, or simply help with overall crowd control.  We also would love to have live music, so if you or anyone you know would like to perform, let us know!  See Fr. Luke or Julie if you’re interested in helping out in any capacity.

What is Backyard Bible School?

Backyard Bible School is basically a Vacation Bible School that’s designed to works in many settings and to scale up or down for whatever number of children show up! You can use it at your church, but we aren’t the first to think about doing a Bible School for neighborhood kids in our own backyard. Our curriculum is called Go Big! It was created specifically for Backyard Bible Schools, and it tells the “Big God Story” and how we each have a part in His Story. It’s a well-done presentation of the basic Gospel message, which is exactly what we were looking for! Our goal is to reach the kids of our neighborhood and begin to build relationships with families as we move toward starting a congregation here. Our age range will be 4-12. Also, we are working on plans to end the week with a block party on Friday evening.

We are at a point where we need to know who is committed to helping, and what days you can be there (it’s okay if you can’t be there every day- we’ll take whatever time you can give!). Please contact me to let me know, or you can let me know at the meeting this Saturday. Here’s how you can help:

Volunteer

We need volunteers! We need small group leaders who will take a handful of kids to discuss the Bible story, work on memory verses, help with crowd control, and help with all activities. We also will need a couple people to lead crafts and games. We have musicians lined up to lead the kids in worship each day (thanks Emily and Ben!).

If you decide to help, you’ll be asked to fill out a form for a background check, which also requires a written signature (so if you’re not at this meeting, we’ll need to make sure we get that from you some time in the next month). Also, if transportation is a concern for you, please let me know so we can figure out how to help with that.

Please let Fr. Luke or Julie Campbell know if you are interested in helping, even if it’s only for a day or two–and we strongly encourage you to attend this Saturday’s meeting! Teenagers are welcome!

Give

If you would like to help offset our costs by providing some necessary supplies, there is a sign-up sheet on the information table in the back of the chapel or click here to sign up online. All supplies are needed by July 19; monetary donations are also welcome. There will be additional opportunities to contribute to and support Backyard Bible School as we get closer to August.

Pray

Please be in prayer for our team as we plan and prepare. See Fr. Luke or Julie with any questions about details.
